The AMLSN FCT Branch, in conjunction with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), organised the ISO Certification Training for Medical Laboratory Scientists 2025 — a capacity-building initiative designed to equip participants with the skills and certification required to practise as Certified Laboratory Auditors.

The training covered ISO 15189, ISO 9001 and ISO 17025, giving participants a comprehensive grounding in the international standards that define modern laboratory practice. It ran from 8th–12th September 2025 at the Conference Hall, Clinical Building, FMC Jabi, at a fee of ₦80,000.

The programme was positioned as far more than a workshop. Certification as a laboratory auditor opens doors to higher roles, leadership positions and consultancy opportunities within and beyond Nigeria, while demonstrating competence and adherence to international best practice to colleagues, institutions and regulators.

Participants gained critical auditing and quality-management skills, building the confidence to handle laboratory accreditation, audits and compliance. ISO certification is highly valued nationally and internationally, providing leverage for improved remuneration and opportunities with international organisations, NGOs and accredited laboratories.

Crucially, laboratories that comply with ISO standards deliver accurate, reliable and safe results — meaning certified scientists contribute directly to better healthcare delivery and patient safety. The training also brought together interns, senior, principal, chief and directorate-cadre scientists, fostering professional networking across every career level.
